Title: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Author: J.K. Rowling
Published Date: 2000
Summary:
Harry has a dream over the summer about a rudimentary, weak Lord Voldemort
plotting to kidnap him and return to full power with them help of his servants
Wormtail and a very faithful Death Eater. Harry writes a letter to Sirius
explaining the dream and is later swept off to spend the summer with the
Weasley\'s where he is introduced to Bill and Charlie and attend the Quidditch
World Cup. In the aftermath of the game, there is an attack by a small band of
Death Eaters, and someone sets Voldemort\'s sign, the Dark Mark off into the sky,
which later causes major chaos for the Ministry..
The summer ends and Harry and the others board the Hogwarts Express and head
towards Hogwarts for the beginning of term. Upon arriving, Dumbledore announces
that the school will be host to two other wizarding schools, Beauxbatons and
Durmstrang. The school would compete in three contests, otherwise known as the
Triwizard Tournament. One champion would be selected to represent each school,
at the age of at least 17, and would be chosen by the Goblet of Fire. The winner
of the tournament would receive the Triwizard Cup a thousand Galleons.
The start of term is rather disastrous, given by Hagrid\'s first unsuccessful
class in introducing Blast-Ended Skrewts. A few days later, they are introduced
into their first Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson, by ex-auror Mad-Eye
Moody, also known as Alastor Moody. He explains to them about the four
Unforgivable Curses, and shows them a Practical Demonstration of each one.
Nevertheless, the term goes on and the two rivaling schools for the tournament
arrive and people begin to submit their names into the Goblet of Fire. One the
night of the champion selection, Viktor Krum, Fleur Delacour, and Cedric Diggory
are chosen. Oddly enough, Harry Potter is chosen too, and after much vehement
debating is allowed to compete.
Hagrid reveals to Harry and Madame Maxime that the first task is dragons, in
which the champions will have to retrieve a golden egg. Igor Karkaroff, the
Headmaster of Durmstrang, has some way found this out as well as as Cedric is
the only one who doesn\'t, Harry tips him off. All four champions make it through
the first round of the tournament, after retrieving their golden eggs, along
with some minors scars. The students attend a Yule Ball, and as Harry is the
champion, he ir required to bring along a partner for the opening dance. He goes
with housemate Parvati Patil after being turned down by Cho Chang, and hooks Ron
up with Parvati\'s twin. Everyone is basically stunned to see a very gorgeous
Hermione Granger come to the balll escorted by the famous Quidditch player
Viktor Krum.
Cedric hints to Harry the way to finding out the clue to the egg, by taking a
shower in the Prefect\'s Bathroom. The clue was that each champion had to rescue
a friend that were guarded under the Black Lake by the merpeople. Harry is to
rescue Ron, while Viktor is to save Hermione and Cedric is to save Cho. Fleur
had not been able to reach her victim, so Harry saved her too, finishing next
last, but was awarded enough points to carry him into tying scores with Cedric.
Weird things happen at school before the third task, with the discovery of
Bartimaeus Crouch\'s body in the and Harry\'s strange dream of the night he had
seen the rudimentary Voldemort with Wormtail, angrily cursing Wormtail for
failing him, coupled with the memories that he saw in Dumbledore\'s Pensieve,
which was those who were caught in Voldemort\'s service. Shortly after, during a
trip to Higsmeade, Harry has a talk with Sirius in a cave in which he has been
hiding since he returned to the north.
The third tasks begins which is a rather brutal maze in which the Triwizard Cup
is hidden and whoever gets to it first is the victor of the tournament. After
many difficulties, obstacles, attacks in the maze, both Harry and Cedric take
hold of the cup together. Not realizing that it was a trap, both of them are
transported to a graveyard. Lord Voldemort (in his practically bodiless form)
and Wormtail are there waiting for them. Wormtail kills Cedric on his master\'s
command and then drags Harry away and ties him to Tom Riddle Senior\'s headstone.
After taking his father\'s bone, Wormtail\'s flesh, and Harry\'s blood, Voldemort
is restored to both his old body and old powers.
The Death Eaters arrive at his call, and he expresses his disappointment in them
by tormenting one of them, and saying that he is unwilling to forgive until he
has had thirteen years of repayment. Then he forces Harry into dueling with him,
and at one simultaneous point, their wands connect and create Prior Incantem.
Echoes of his dead victims spill out and shield Harry from Voldemort. This gives
him enough time to make a bolt for the cup, grabs Cedric\'s body, and vanish off
to Hogwarts once more to deliver the news of the Dark lord\'s return.
Moody takes Harry to his office, where he reveals the truth that he was the
Death Eater who sent Harry to Voldemort and killed Barty Crouch. He attempted to
kill Harry for Voldemort, but was saved at the last minuted by Dumbledore, who
came into the office with Snape and McGonagall. Later, after the Polyjuice
Potion has worn off and the Veritaserum potion reveals that this is Barty Crouch
Junior, who impostored the real Alastor Moody the entire year and is forced to
confess to Dumbledore. Before he can retell this information back to Cornelius
Fudge, who arrives at the school with a Dementor, the ghastly creature rips him
of his soul. And Fudge point blank refuses to believe that Lord Voldemort
returned.
And Harry returns home for the summer once more.
