| Login and Registration Issues |
Why can't I log in? Have you registered? Seriously, you must register in order to log in. Have you been banned from the board? (A message will be displayed if you have.) If so, you should contact the webmaster or board administrator to find out why. If you have registered and are not banned and you still cannot log in then check and double-check your username and password. Usually this is the problem; if not, contact the board administrator -- they may have incorrect configuration settings for the board.
(see also: Arrests and Banning, I've lost my password!, I registered but cannot log in!, I registered in the past but cannot log in anymore!) Back to top |
Why do I need to register at all? Guests can only view the main website and a few of the forums. If you would like to participate in battles, use the shops, earn knuts, post new topics or replies (which includes participating in classes) or any of our many features, you must be a registered member. After registration, you may sign up with a house, interact with the other users and play different types of games. It only takes a few minutes to register and it's really worth it!
Why do I get logged off automatically? If you do not check the "Log me in automatically" box when you log in, the board will only keep you logged in for a preset time. To stay logged in, check the box during login. This is not recommended if you access the board from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university cluster, etc. because this option stores a cookie on the computer you are currently on. That cookie will not disappear so other people that have access to that computer will also have access to your account! If you reset your cookies recently, it will delete this cookie and log you off of the site.
(see also: Cookie Problems) Back to top |
How do I prevent my username from appearing in the online user listings? In your profile you will find an option Hide your online status; if you switch this on you'll only appear to board administrators or to yourself. You will be counted as a hidden user.
(see also: Staff Options) Back to top |
I've lost my password! Don't panic! While your password cannot be retrieved it can be reset. To do this go to the login page and click I've forgotten my password. Follow the instructions and you should be back online in no time. Back to top |
I registered but cannot log in! First check that you are entering the correct username and password. If they are okay then one of two things may have happened: if COPPA support is enabled and you clicked the I am under 13 years old link while registering then you will have to follow the instructions you received. If this is not the case then maybe your account need activating. Some boards will require all new registrations be activated, either by yourself or by the administrator before you can log on. When you registered it would have told you whether activation was required. If you were sent an email then follow the instructions; if you did not receive the email then check that your email address is valid. One reason activation is used is to reduce the possibility of rogue users abusing the board anonymously. If you are sure the email address you used is valid then try contacting the board administrator. Back to top |
I registered in the past but cannot log in anymore! The most likely reasons for this are: you entered an incorrect username or password (check the email you were sent when you first registered) or the administrator has deleted your account due to inactivity or failure to activate your account within 48 hours. The admin removes users who have not used their account in 30 days to reduce of the database. Try registering again.

How do I change houses? House Changes can be requested after the first of each month until the 10th of the month. This is in place due to the house competition here at Xauror. House changes too late in the month seem to be an effort to get into the winning house at the time. Every house gets a prize every month and no house can win 2 times in a row.
If it is between the 1st and the 10th of the month, request your house change in the Site Help Forum. Back to top |

How do I earn knuts? There are several ways to earn knuts.
You can get started by visiting Dumbledore.

You can earn more knuts by playing Muggle Games.
Click Here to play Muggle Games
You will also earn knuts in killing monsters in the Practical Classes/Lessons.
Click Here to go to Practical Lessons
Or you can earn knuts by taking quizzes.
Also you can buy a ticket each day to enter into the Daily Prophet Daily Drawing.
Click Here to buy your ticket
If you are devious and don't mind perhaps being thrown into Azkaban, you can pick others pockets. You will have to figure out how to do this yourself. Be warned it will use up your daily allotment of 250 prize limits. One prize for every pocket picked.
Sometimes the staff will offer special knut games in the forums. Be on the look out in the Games Forum, and Hogwarts Classes Forums.
There are other ways too if you do a little exploring and participating you might find those as well. Back to top |
What happened to my knuts? Well it depends on what you have done.
If you buy anything your knuts will go down. If you submit a negative score in a Muggle Game your amount on hand will go down. If someone fined you for something-if this is the case check your posts or Owls to find out why. If someone picked your pocket, you might lose some knuts too.
Never fear knuts are not too hard to earn. Check Here to find out how to earn some more.
To prevent those sneaking thieves from stealing your hard earned money. Be sure to deposit your extra money into your Gringotts Bank Account for safe keeping.

What about Sickles and Galleons? Galleons and Sickles are a later addition to the site initially created for a troubleshooting project. Currently most things on the site need to be purchased with knuts. Converting your knuts to sickles and then to galleons is not wise unless you are doing it for fun or you have too many knuts.
Eventually items will be created that use Galleons and Sickles but that will be in the future. So far only Pygmy Puffs can be purchased using Galleons. Back to top |

What are House Points? House Points are the way the 4 houses can compete with one another like in the Harry Potter Books.
What is the House Cup? The House Cup is the prize you and your housemates win if you have the most adjusted house points at the end of a month.
Currently the prize is some spending money, butterbeers, Fizzing Whizbees and phoenix downs. Each house will get a prize depending on their standing and no house can win 2 months in a row. Back to top |
How do you earn House Points? You must have been sorted into a house.
Once sorted you earn points for your house by doing Practical Classes, participating in Classroom Forums, doing homework for those classes, and special games held in the Great Hall Forum or in other forums.
How do you lose House Points? House points are lost for a variety of reasons. Chiefly they are lost for spamming in the forums, inappropriate posts, or rude behavior. You can also lose house points when you lose a battle in the Practical Classes. Back to top |
What are Adjusted House Points? Adjusted House Points are used to determine the winners of each month's house cup. Adjusted House Points are calculated based on each house's current membership divided into the total number of house points each house earned. We came to this decision to make it fair and possible for each house to have a chance to win especially after a time when Gryffindor won 5 months in a row that no other house could possibly catch if they played night and day.
Have no fear about the inactive members of your house, we have done statistical studies and each house has an equal percentage of inactive members and does not help nor hurt your adjusted house points total. What makes the difference is your house's members desire to win in any given month. If you can get your house excited, your house will most likely win. Good Luck! Back to top |

Site Secrets? There are several special items, secret battles, promotions, and puzzles to figure out here at Xauror. However asking about them is not allowed publically and giving them away publically or privately is also against the rules.
When you feel you are ready you may apply to join the Chamber of Secrets Club where hints are given about the secrets and where you are allowed to vaguely discuss them with the fellow users.
Remember most of the fun of doing secrets is to figure them out for yourself - if you find a secret try not to ruin it for anyone else.
If a site secret for some reason is not working you may say so in the Chamber of Secrets Club or owl Xauror. Back to top |

What are fanfics? Fanfics are user written mini-stories based on the Harry Potter book series and perhaps a unique magical creation. Every user can submit one fanfic at a time for consideration by our librarians. All fanfics are to be written with all ages in mind. Fanfics that are inappropriate or not geared for the whole Harry Potter audience will be rejected. Back to top |
What happens after I submit my fanfic? After you submit your fanfic, it will be reviewed by one of our librarians. This process could take hours or days depending on when the librarians are on, the amount of editing needed, etc. So please be patient. If the fanfic is approved it will appear on the check out fanfic page where it will be on sale. You will get the purchase price for every book sold. So if you buy your own fanfic, the knuts will be subtracted from your account and added back.
If the fanfic is rejected, the librarian will most likely send you an owl letting you know why.
To see how many times your fanfic has been purchased, go to my fanfics. Click on read fanfic and scroll to the bottom of the page where it will tell you how many times the fanfic has been purchased. Back to top |

Can I duel other members? Go to Dueling Club in the Wizarding World to challenge a user.
As many of you found out Dueling Club can be hazardous to your stats. So I have a few words to help you out:
Save, Save, and Save.
The way the dueling club works is that it locks in your statistics when you are challenged or when you challenge someone. This allows a duel to be in progress over several days without your opponent running off to better themselves or their stats. However because it locks in the statistics, any gains you make while in the midst of dueling or being challenged will be lost if you do not save.
If you have saved, once the duel is over you can restore your stats and nothing is lost. However if you have progressed and have not saved, all the items purchased, and any stat gains can be and in most cases will be lost.
I know this is a pain but saving and restoring does work well.
Be CAREFUL when starting a duel! It is wise to Owl your intended opponent before heading to the Dueling Club. It is possible to get stuck in duels. Make sure that your opponent is going to be around to duel you, for if they leave, and do not return, you stay locked in that duel until it is ended. While locked in a duel, you can not do Practical Classes, Secret Battles, or duel anyone else. If you do get stuck in an unwanted duel, contact a forum Administrator, and they will release you from the duel.
When you are dueling someone can you stop the duel? Cause Im dueling this person that is taking forever to equip and I dont want to fight 'em anymore!
When ever you need to get out of a duel due to the fact the person didnt get on after you accepted ask Minister of Magic, or a Junior Minister. One of them will undo the duel for you. Back to top |
What happened to all my stuff? If you were dueling and are now missing your wand, spell book, and robes, don't panic. Unfortunately, you have probably lost the items. The best way to prevent the loss is to finish the duel, don't equip for a duel twice, and save your character before entering the duel. Back to top |

I cannot send Owls! There are three reasons for this; you are not registered and/or not logged on, the board administrator has disabled Owling for the entire board, or the board administrator has prevented you individually from sending messages. If it is the latter case you should try asking the administrator why. Back to top |
I keep getting unwanted Owls! In the future we will be adding an ignore list to the Owling system. For now, though, if you keep receiving unwanted Owls from someone, inform the Minister of Magic, your Head of House or a Security Troll -- they have the power to prevent a user from sending Owls at all.
(see also: Security Measures, Staff) Back to top |
I have received a spamming or abusive email from someone on this board! We are sorry to hear that. The email form feature of this board includes safeguards to try to track users who send such posts. You should contact the Security Troll immediately with a full copy of the email you received and it is very important this include the headers (these list details of the user that sent the email). They can then take action.
(see also: Security Measures, Staff) Back to top |

Why am I getting more than fifty owls at once? This will happen when you check the Recieve Mass Owl option when you edit your profile. To change this simply say No to that option and you will not get so many owls at once unless someone is spamming you, then you report them. Back to top |

I died in the Practical Classes, how do I revive? Calm down. Take a deep breath and listen. Yes, you can be revived. Go to St. Mungo's Major Injuries division. You will have to pay 10 knuts per level. Back to top |
I died in battle, and now my stats don't replenish and I can't use healing items! Why? This is an option controlled by the forum Admin, and is perfectly normal if they've disabled replenishing/healing when users are at 0HP. Back to top |
Why are there so few items on my list in the Practical Classes? Certain items can only be used in battle when you reach a particular level or are a particular year. At low levels, you'll only be able to use few lesser weapons, equipment or spells. As you progress, you'll be able to use tougher weapons, spells and items in battle. Note that Spells will only be available to you if you are at a high enough level/right class to use them, and have sufficient MP. Back to top |
Why can't I graduate? When you reach Level 70 with your character you are eligible to graduate. In order to graduate your character must be a Year 7 Student, a Prefect, or a Head Student. When you are ready and meet the above qualifications, go to the NEWTs Practical Exam in the Wizarding World. If you are successful, you will receive a NEWTs award, click on it in your inventory or at the end of the battle and you will be a graduate of Hogwarts. Back to top |

What are prizes? PL , Prizes or Prize Limit, and determines how many special activities you can engage in a day. This is to help ensure everyone has the chance to use some, and also to keep bandwidth on the server down. Participating in a practical classes and pickpocketing use up prize limits. Once your prize limit is used up for the day you can either wait for your statistics to replenish or use a Butterbeer from your inventory (from winning house cup competition). Or visit the Leaky Cauldron for some expensive drinks that can raise the prizes too. To refresh your prizes each day you have to click on VIEW MY PROFILE in the page header. You will be able to refresh your PLs each day about the same time but that time is different for each user. Back to top |
Can I use the Unforgivable Curses? Unforgivable curses are perfectly valid and necessary to use against some enemies especially in the practical classes. These are powerful spell that like the spells in the book can do major damage and yes Avada Kedavra can kill instantly if you are a good shot and a little luck helps too. Back to top |
How do I increase my Battling abilities/How can I get healing items/Where can I buy stuff? Diagon Alley (the icon of the yellow buildings at the top of your screen) is where you can purchase items. Flourish & Blotts - a shop to purchase antidotes, spells for Battle, and Spell Books. Furniture - a shop to purchase furniture for your house, if you choose to get one, as well as Healing Seeds and Fairy Tears for Battle. Madem Milkin's - a shop to purchase all you school robes. Ollivander's - a shop to purchase all you wands from. The Apothecary - a shop to purchase Potion ingredients from, now I wonder what these are for... Weasley's Wizard Wheezes - a joke shop that sells a few things you may find useful in Battle. The Leaky Cauldron: Purchase Drinks to replenish your prizes. Forums: Avatars and Signatures - just what it says, this is where you purchase your Avatar and Signature abilities as well as a few other goodies for the forums. Back to top |
If we are in year one do we have to buy a year one wand? Wands, robes, and standard book of spells are optional purchases but they will have keep your enemy from hurting you. They are all defensive items. The higher the year robe, wand, and book you have the more help it is keeping you safe. Of course if you are only a year one you will not be able to use a year 7 wand. Back to top |
What are the HP/MP/PL bars (and other stats) in my profile for? HP stands for Hit Points, these are used during battles. MP stands for Magic Points, these are used during battles and sometimes when using items. PL stands for Prize Limit, and determines how many Prize Items you can use in a day, to help ensure everyone has the chance to use some, and also to keep CPU usage on the server down. ATT & DEF are your Attack and Defense stats for use in the battle system. Back to top |
How do I go up a level? After a certain amount of Experience Points have been gained, you will go up a level - level-ups occur when you click on the level up page - link at the top of the page and in the Wizarding World. If your Experience is more than the required amount, any remaining experience will carry over.
How do I use an Admissions Letter? You can either buy one from the Flourish and Blotts shop or as a new member, visit Dumbledore's Office by clicking the purple Dumbledore icon in the page header. You can only get it from him one time, but it never disappears, so there is no reason for duplicate tickets. The Admissions Letter allows you to enter Practical Classes and battle monsters for knuts, experience, house points and you might even find an item.
(see also: How Do I Increase These Statistics?, House Points) Back to top |
Why do some monsters take longer to defeat than others? The Monsters' stats are generated based on your own stats.. This means monsters will vary from being marginally weaker than you, to much stronger, and so some will be easy to defeat, some will take a while... or defeat you! Back to top |
I was poisoned/muddled!! Help?! Antidote's what you need! Or Go to the Hospital Wing and Madame Pomfrey will fix you right up! Back to top |
What is the point of escaping a practical class using a spell or item, when I can just close the browser window? When you use an Admissions Letter, a point is deducted from your Prize Item usage limit (assuming the Admin has set it up this way), so by closing the browser down, you are effectively wasting a Prize Item usage. If you use a spell or item to escape the battle, you'll at least gain some experience for it! Back to top |
Why don't you include the actual stat numbers beside the bars? That would take up more space and look messy, IMHO. If you mouse-over the bars, you can see the numbers though! Back to top |
How do I increase these statistics? There are various items available to increase your stats, even your Attack and Defense stats. Your stats will also increase when you go up a level. Note that the Prize Limit cannot be increased, it's the same for everyone. Back to top |
After the battle I was low on HP/MP, how can I get them back? Healing items are available at the shop to replenish your stats, and if you check your profile every day, you will replenish some of your stats too. This happens based on your joining date and time, so if you joined the forums originally at 2pm, that's the time your stats will be ready to replenish each day. Note that only a certain amount (based on your maximum stats) will be replenished each day, so you will not necessarily be at full HP/MP after you have replenished your stats. Back to top |
How do I know what items I can use in battle? Any items which can be used in battle have their battle info listed in their shop information, for example the classes which can use it, the level you must be at and the MP cost, if any. Back to top |

What is the Report Card option in WW for? Since you can change classes in WW, you may find that you don't like the class you change to. The Report Card allows you to save your current class/stats and go back to them if you want to. Back to top |
What is the Promote option in WW for? When you reach a certain level, you can promote to a higher class, allowing you to use better items and equipment. Back to top |
Why is there only one Class I can promote to? Each Class has only one standard promotion (if any), though some may also have Special Promotions. You can only receive a Special Promotion through the use of certain items. Good luck finding them! Back to top |
I found an item which is for a Promoted Class but the level listed is lower than the promotion level... why? The item 'level' is determined based on it's strength, so although the item may be of level 7 strength, you may not actually be able to use it until you are promoted. Back to top |
What happens when I re-enroll? Well first off, why do you want to reenroll? Once you reach level 70 or higher, you can retire a character. This puts you in the Hall of Fame and resets you back to level 1.
But if you insist upon re-enrolling, you MUST be a level 10 or higher. Trying below level 10 will mess up the entire system (if you do this accidentally, reenroll again and choose to be a 1st year and that should clear up the problem). When you reenroll you keep all of your inventory. (But if you are still worried, put all your spells in a Gringotts Vault). You are then reset to Level 1 with a HP of 10 and a MP of 10.
If the reason you want to reenroll is because you are dying constantly in battles, make sure you take advantage of all Cheerful Bread, Power Water, Protect Milk and Bright Honey. You also need to make sure you hang on to spells. Just because you are eligible to use a new spell, that is not a reason to sell your old ones. Trust me, it doesn't work. If you need more knuts to buy spells, see above FAQ. You will slowly get the hang of Practical Classes. Dying in them is not the worst thing in the world.
Oh and if you keep reenrolling, you will never get to a level to become a prefect or head student. And trust me those are fun secrets. Back to top |
Why can't I become a Year 6 or Year 7? There are 2 possible reasons. The first is that you are not a high enough level yet. You need to be at Level 50 to promote to Year 6 or You need to be at Level 60 for Year 7.
Otherwise if you become a Prefect, the options for you are to promote to a Head Student at Level 60 or a Graduate at Level 70. Back to top |
When will there be more quizzes? Quizzes are created by Professors and any users who would like to create one. When quizzes are reviewed and approved, they will be available for everyone to take. Back to top |

What is Potions? Potions allows you to mix up from 2 to 4 items together in a special cauldron to see what you can make. Perhaps there are a few special items that might be useful.
To select multiple items to combine, highlight the item you would like to add, click on it with your left mouse button while holding down the ctrl(control) key on your keyboard.
If you look at the View List of possible potions, you will see see a list of required items - those are the items need to combine to make the item who picture is next to those required items.

What is Visit Trelawny? Do you risk actually going up to see her? Well it is not too risky and only a small fee for her services. However she has been known to not always give useful predictions or advice. Although some report that from time to time she has been very helpful. Back to top |

How do I post a topic in a forum? Easy -- click the relevant button on either the forum or topic screens. You may need to register before you can post a message. The facilities available to you are listed at the bottom of the forum and topic screens (the You can post new topics, You can vote in polls, etc. list) Back to top |
How do I edit or delete a post? Unless you are the board admin or forum moderator you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post by clicking the edit button on your post. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic that lists the number of times you edited it. For example, if you see "Last edited by Jamie on Fri Jun 18, 2004 3:04 pm; edited 2 times in total", you would know who edited it, when they last edited it and how many changes they have made. This will not appear if moderators or administrators edit the post, but when staff members edit posts they leave you a short message. Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied.
(see also: Staff Abilities)

How do I add a signature to my posts? To add a signature, you must first purchase the option. Click the yellow Diagon Alley icon in the Wizarding World and select the "Forums: Avatars And Signatures" shop. After buying this option one time, you can change your signature by clicking the "Edit My Profile" link.
(see also: Shops, Forum Options) Back to top |
How do I create a poll? Creating a poll is easy -- when you post a new topic (or edit the first post of a topic, if you have permission) you should see a Add Poll form below the main posting box. If you cannot see this then you probably do not have rights to create polls. You should enter a title for the poll and then at least two options -- to set an option type in the poll question and click the Add option button. You can also set a time limit for the poll, 0 being an infinite amount. There will be a limit to the number of options you can list, which is set by the board administrator Back to top |
How do I edit or delete a poll? As with posts, polls can only be edited by the original poster, a moderator, or board administrator. To edit a poll, click the first post in the topic, which always has the poll associated with it. If no one has cast a vote then users can delete the poll or edit any poll option. However, if people have already placed votes only moderators or administrators can edit or delete it; this is to prevent people rigging polls by changing options mid-way through a poll.
(see also: How do I edit or delete a post?) Back to top |

Why can't I access a forum? Some forums may be limited to certain users or groups. The forums you cannot access, you also cannot see. If you were trying to get into a different house's common room, maybe there is a secret hidden on the site that would help you?
(see also: Site Secrets) Back to top |
Why can't I vote in polls? Only registered users can vote in polls so as to prevent spoofing of results. If you have registered and still cannot vote then you probably do not have appropriate access rights. Back to top |
How do I mark all posts as read? If you would like to mark all posts as read, there are 2 ways. You can mark all posts as read for all the forums by Clicking Here or You can enter each individual forum and click on the all posts read at the bottom of the topics page on the right. Back to top |
How do I sign up for classes? No sign up necessary. Simply go into the forum for the classes you wish to participate in. Its that simple. Read the class rules and treat it as any other forum. Try and answer questions and extra credit for house points. Also the professors often post homework quizzes in the Homework section in the Wizarding World. Those help you earn a few extra knuts. Back to top |
How do I add an Avatar to my Profile? You must first purchase the ability from the "Forums" shop in Diagon Alley. Then you may add or change your Avatar by clicking the "Edit My Profile" tab. To put an image on a forum, it must first fit the size requirements (100x100 or smaller) and be hosted on a site. To have an image hosted, you can use a free image hosting site such as www.pixpond.com or www.imageshack.us, if you don't have your own website. Follow the sites' on screen instructions to have your image hosted, then copy the url you are given, and paste that url in the Avatar box in "Edit My Profile". The image should now appear under your username in posts, and beside your Stat Window before Practical Classes and Secret Battles. Back to top |
What is Pickpocketing? It is a nasty habit some of the users of this site have to get some extra spending money. It can help you financially but be warned there is a chance you can get caught and an auror might be out to get you. Also if you are caught sometimes the user you were trying to pick the pocket of will get richer rather than poorer.
To pick someone's pocket be sure they have some knuts. Then click on the link in their post and there you have done it. Opening an account at Gringotts helps you protect your knuts from all the thieves and seems to benefit the pickpocketers too. Back to top |
What are passworded forums and how do I get in? Some forums have been passworded at the request of the forum owner. To get a password ask the forum moderator, if you are unsure of what the forum is the best bet is to ask around or check Hagrid's Hut where the clubs meet.
If you know the password and can not get into the forum, be sure you are clicking on the submit button and not hitting enter. If you hit enter the password will not be sent and you will not be able to get in the forum even if you have the correct password. Back to top |
What is a drunken post? A drunken post is a post made when you are drunk. Too much firewhiskey and other drinks from the Leaky Cauldron used to enhance your prizes will also have the side effect of making your posts look like your speech is slurred. To rid yourself of drunkness and post normally again (which most of the moderators appreciate greatly), drink some Nettle Tea also found in the . Back to top |
How can your posts go down? When threads are deleted that you have posted in your post count will go down. Back to top |
How come I cannot see certain forums? Firstly, all forums can be accessed at the Jump to: *drop down menu*. You may still need a password for some forums, but otherwise that is the easiest way. Another thing you can do is click on the main forum you want such as the Great Hall and you shall find sub forums. There you can access those forums. If you still can't access certain forums than it may be the fact that you aren't sorted yet. Back to top |

See the Staff Page for the most up to date staff listings.
Moderators are listed by forum name.
What are Moderators? Moderators are individuals (or groups of individuals) whose job it is to look after the running of the forums from day to day. They have the power to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate. Generally moderators are there to prevent people going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material. Back to top |

The times are not correct! The times are almost certainly correct; however, what you may be seeing are times displayed in a timezone different from the one you are in. If this is the case, you should change your profile setting for the timezone to match your particular area, e.g. London, Paris, New York, Sydney, etc. Please note that changing the timezone, like most settings, can only be done by registered users. So if you are not registered, this is a good time to do so, if you pardon the pun!
The default time setting for this board is Central Standard Time in the USA. Back to top |
I changed the timezone and the time is still wrong! If you are sure you have set the timezone correctly and the time is still different, the most likely answer is daylight savings time (or summer time as it is known in the UK and other places). The board is not designed to handle the changeovers between standard and daylight time so during summer months the time may be an hour different from the real local time. Back to top |

My language is not in the list! The only language currently supported on this site is English. Sorry I never learned another language well enough to translate it to something else. Back to top |

How do I show an image below my username? Only certain staff and VIP members have pictures under their names. Currently, only staff members in the positions of Auror and Security Troll have pictures under their names.

What is BBCode? BBCode is a special implementation of HTML. Whether you can use BBCode is determined by the administrator. You can also disable it on a per post basis from the posting form. BBCode itself is similar in style to HTML: tags are enclosed in square braces [ and ] rather than < and > and it offers greater control over what and how something is displayed. For more information on BBCode see the guide which can be accessed from the posting page. Back to top |
Can I use HTML? That depends on whether the administrator allows you to; they have complete control over it. If you are allowed to use it, you will probably find only certain tags work. This is a safety feature to prevent people from abusing the board by using tags which may destroy the layout or cause other problems. If HTML is enabled you can disable it on a per post basis from the posting form. Back to top |
What are Smileys? Smileys, or Emoticons, are small graphical images which can be used to express some feeling using a short code, e.g. :) means happy, :( means sad. The full list of emoticons can be seen via the posting form. Try not to overuse smileys, though, as they can quickly render a post unreadable and a moderator may decide to edit them out or remove the post altogether. Back to top |
Can I post Images? Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. We recommend Photo Bucket (link), which lets you host images for free. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images on certain free webhosts (Geocities, Tripid, Angelfire, etc.) or stored behind authentication mechanisms (such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes), password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use either the BBCode [img] tag or appropriate HTML (if allowed).
(see also: Forum Options) Back to top |
What are Announcements? Announcements often contain important information and you should read them as soon as possible. Announcements appear at the top of every page in the forum to which they are posted. Whether or not you can post an announcement depends on the permissions required, which are set by the administrator. Back to top |
What are Sticky topics? Sticky topics appear below any announcements in viewforum and only on the first page. They are often quite important so you should read them where possible. As with announcements the board administrator determines what permissions are required to post sticky topics in each forum. Back to top |
What are Locked topics? Locked topics are set this way by either the forum moderator or board administrator. You cannot reply to locked topics and any poll contained inside is automatically ended. Topics may be locked for many reasons. Back to top |

What personal information is it ok to share? Personal information should only be shared to a certain extent over the Internet.
Never give out your address or telephone number to anyone you meet on the internet. There are alot of crazy people out there and we want to keep everyone safe.
You can share your first name with people, but do not give your last name. Last names allow people to be looked up.
Do not give people details about where you are from either. States are fine and general areas are fine, but do not tell people that you are from Podunk, Ill. Again it allows people to track you down. Back to top |
Can I arrange a meet-up with people from the site? Xauror.com will not support any meet-ups amongst its users. You will not be allowed to arrange them or talk about them on this site.
We also strongly recommend not arranging a meet-up with anyone you meet on the internet. People are not always what they seem online and there are some dangerous people who hunt for victims on the internet.
So please for your safety, do NOT arrange to meet-up with anyone you have met online. Back to top |

Who wrote this bulletin board? This software (in its unmodified form) is produced, released and is copyrighted phpBB Group. It is made available under the GNU General Public License and may be freely distributed; see link for more details Back to top |

Why isn't X feature available? This software was written by and licensed through phpBB Group. If you believe a feature needs to be added then please visit the phpbb.com website and see what the phpBB Group has to say. Please do not post feature requests to the board at phpbb.com, as the Group uses sourceforge to handle tasking of new features. Please read through the forums and see what, if any, our position may already be for features and then follow the procedure given there. Back to top |

Whom do I contact about abusive and/or legal matters related to this board? You should contact the administrator of this board. If you cannot find who that is, you should first contact one of the forum moderators and ask them who you should in turn contact. If still get no response you should contact the owner of the domain (do a whois lookup) or, if this is running on a free service (e.g. yahoo, free.fr, f2s.com, etc.), the management or abuse department of that service. Please note that phpBB Group has absolutely no control and cannot in any way be held liable over how, where or by whom this board is used. It is absolutely pointless contacting phpBB Group in relation to any legal (cease and desist, liable, defamatory comment, etc.) matter not directly related to the phpbb.com website or the discrete software of phpBB itself. If you do email phpBB Group about any third party use of this software then you should expect a terse response or no response at all. Back to top |

On-Going Fact on many things Job Listings - Site jobs are posted in the site job forum. Positions may stay open from time to time depending on need and admins willingness to hire again.
Marriage/Children System - Is an extremely complicated system. You have to be 15 (site age) in order to get married. Once married you can no longer be adopted. Couples can have up to 6 children. Children can be made or adopted. For the sake of other users, please choose the adoption and make sure the person wants to be adopted. The cost to be unadopted is 50,000 knuts. You can be unadopted by clicking View My Profile at the top of your page. Then click on unadopt under your current parents name. Agree to be unadopted and you will then be an orphan and 50,000 knuts poorer. At some point the choice to make a child will be removed. When choosing make a child you are randomly given a member as your child. That person may not want to be adopted and/or that person may not be active.
Avatars and Signatures are not automatically detected by the site filters to be appropiate or inappropiate. Therefore we need all the moderators to be on the look out for inappropiate avatars and/or signatures that would not be considered child-friendly, violent, and innuendos, etc. when you do spot one owl seek_me, Wizardboy24, Godfather, or myself and we will ask the user to remove the signature and/or avatar. If they do not remove it within a few hours or it is totally inappropiate, it will be removed for them.
Reporting Posts - When you see a post not following site rules, be sure to contact the moderator or report the post using the ! button. You may fine the person if you are able only if the moderator for that forum is missing in action or not available. Respect the authority of the moderator and let them decide what to do or report it to an admin who will get notified if you report the post.
Who can give/take knuts and house points - All Professors, and Quizmasters, and Ministers of Magic. Other users are given abilities as their positions and responsibilities require.
Official Warnings - These are warnings given for people abusing the site rules over and over and/or moderators who have over stepped their bounds in awarding knuts and/or house points. 3 warnings results in a permanent ban.
Banned Notices - The site has an automatic system that bans IP address of people who purposefully or unintentionally try to hack the site. The site does have a regular hacker who tries via AOL therefore the AOL users will experience a ban notice from time to time. Encourage users to try using IE or Firefox for browsing the site to cut down on these messages.
In case of site is down - In case the site is down for extended periods there are backup sites in place to help notify users of what is going on. These sites are http://xauror.org and http://xauror.net. They may or may not be in use when the site is working.
Age The age system on the site is based on how long you have been a member. Typically you will age 1-2 years per week.
